History
On November 8, 1993, The 100th anniversary, of the birth of His Majesty King Phrabat Somdej Phra Poramintharamaha Prajadhipok Phra Pokklao Chaoyuhua, Parliament President Prof. Marut Bunnag, appointed a committee to establish a democratic development institution in the honor of King Prajadhipok. Eventually, the National Assembly agreed to establish “the King Prajadhipok’s Institute” and the late King Bhumibhol consented to granted approval for the new institute to bear the name of King Prajadhipok, a juristic person under the supervision of the President of the National Assembly.
Later, on June 6, 1997, National Assembly President Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, appointed a committee to draft a King Prajadhipok’s Institute Act based on principles of King Prajadhipok’s Institute Committee. On 15 July, 1998, the House of Representatives approved the Senate’s revision of the draft, so the bill was sent to receive Royal Assent, and the King Prajadhipok’s Institute Act was published in the Government Gazette, dated September 4, 1998. Since then, King Prajadhipok’s Institute has been a juristic entity under the supervision of President of National Assembly. Mr.Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, as National Assembly President was the first Executive Committee chairman, and Prof. Dr. Borwornsak Uwanno was the institute’s first secretary general (January 2, 1999 – January 4, 2003). Prof. Noranit Setabutr was appointed as the second secretary general (February 5, 2003 – November 15, 2006), and Prof. Dr. Borwansak Uwanno then returned for two more terms as secretary general (December 22, 2006 – December 21, 2014). The current secretary general Vitavas Chaipakpoom was appointed on December 22,2022 .
