KPI Secretary-General Addresses Global Human Rights Forum in Beijing, Highlighting theRole of Good Governance in Advancing Human Rights
Associate Professor Dr. Issara Sereewatthanawut, Secretary-General of the King Prajadhipok’s Institute, was invited by the organizing committee of the 2026 Forum on Global Human Rights Governance to participate in the forum and deliver a keynote address on “The Human Rights Implications of the Global Governance Initiative”, underscoring the Institute’s international recognition as Thailand’s leading think tank on legislative affairs and good governance. The forum was held on 11–12 June 2026 at the Beijing Hotel, Beijing, the People’s Republic of China.
The forum was jointly organized by the State Council Information Office (SCIO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China under the theme “Joint Development, Shared Human Rights: The 40th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration on the Right to Development and a New Vision for Global Human Rights Governance”. The forum was attended by representatives from governments, international organizations, academia, and experts from various countries, who exchanged views on the right to development, global governance, and approaches to advancing human rights in the face of contemporary global challenges.
In his keynote address, Associate Professor Dr. Issara Sereewatthanawut highlighted the King Prajadhipok’s Institute’s commitment to advancing good governance as a foundation for promoting human rights, in line with the five core principles of the Global Governance Initiative (GGI):
• Sovereign Equality – by promoting public participation and ensuring that the voices of citizens and communities are reflected in policymaking;
• International Rule of Law – by supporting participatory legislative processes that enable citizens to contribute to legal reform;
• Multilateralism – by strengthening international cooperation on governance, including supporting Thailand’s accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD);
• People-Centered Approach – by creating platforms for civic learning and public participation, particularly through the Civic Politics Development Centers and KPI Poll;
• Real Actions – by advancing citizen-driven policy proposals through the legislative process, including the citizen-proposed Sustainable Waste Management Bill.
The Institute’s participation and the invitation extended to its secretary-general to address this prestigious international forum marked another significant milestone in enhancing Thailand’s role in global discussions on good governance and human rights. The occasion also provided an important platform for strengthening international partnerships, exchanging knowledge, and sharing Thailand’s experience in participatory democracy, reaffirming the King Prajadhipok’s Institute’s role as the nation’s leading legislative think tank contributing to sustainable development and the promotion and protection of human rights at the international level.
